Family Day

  • Dechen London 106 Chepstow Road London, England, W2 5QS United Kingdom (map)

Bringing Dharma into Everyday Life

At Dechen London, we’re delighted to introduce Family Days—a space for families to come together, connect, and engage with the Dharma in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Inspired by the teachings of Karma Thinley Rinpoche, who always spoke with great warmth about family life, these special days reflect the understanding that for lay practitioners, the family is their sangha. Just as monastics rely on their fellow practitioners, families too can be a rich ground for Dharma practice—offering daily opportunities to cultivate patience, kindness, and wisdom.

Lama Jampa has continued to encourage this positive view of family life, reminding us that the home is not a hindrance to practice, but rather an essential setting for it. This vision is beautifully embodied by His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen, a great Vajra Master who has shown that spiritual realization and family life can go hand in hand.

What to Expect:
Family Days are open to everyone—whether you're new to Buddhism or a long-standing member of the sangha. Activities will be designed to benefit a range of ages and backgrounds, creating an inclusive atmosphere where all feel welcome.

Whether you're bringing your children, attending with loved ones, or coming to meet like-minded families, these gatherings are a chance to share in the joy of Dharma together.

Come along and take part—we’d love to welcome you.

What Happens on Family Days

  • A short Chenrezik meditation, with simple reminders to help everyone join in

  • Telling of Jataka tales—stories from the life of the Buddha

  • Learning and reciting short verses, like The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva, where suitable

  • Practising kindness through giving, with a shared food offering and prayer

  • Fun activities for children and families (details to come)

These sessions are for children and parents to attend together. They're a chance to grow closer as a family, enjoy Dharma together, and connect with other families in a friendly and supportive space.
